The Small Hours with Donal DIneen...
DEVASTATED to hear it's coming to an end.
I'll have no one to steal music from...
"Today FM have announced today that The Small Hours, presented and produced by the much acclaimed and respected DJ Donal Dineen will be closing its doors later this year. Dineen’s first show on Today FM, Here Comes the Night, aired on the stations first day of broadcasting as Radio Ireland on 17 March 1997, and he has been with the station ever since.
A musical pioneer since his early days as the presenter of No Disco in the nineties, through to his current late night radio show The Small Hours, Dineen has used his discerning ear to seek out, listen to and encourage experimental music in all genres.
Donal had this to say about today's announcement;
“While I’m disappointed the show has to end now, I’m very grateful for all the time I've had doing the job I always dreamed of and I've enjoyed each minute of every programme over the past fifteen years. The response from the audience and the many music-makers who joined me in the studio has been a big reward in itself and I want to thank everybody for their valuable support and contributions.
I need no incentive to go on and try to build on those foundations. Inspiration is all around and I'm looking forward to whatever the next phase brings. Even if this particular show can't go on, the music certainly won't be stopping anytime soon. There'll always be more to come, to be continued...”
The Small Hours will air its last show on Thursday 1st December 2011, and Donal will be announcing news of his future adventures in sound, including the Parish recording project, on www.facebook.com/DonalDineen"

Keeping Up Appearances
Fiona Dowling
Keeping Up Appearances visually chronicles the lives of several young women based in the rural midlands. The work seeks to document the ways in which they choose to express themselves, both individually and collectively, whilst living in an increasingly futile economy that specialises in the mass exportation of young adults. In spite of this, an unspoken tenacity remains in their social desires and their personal aspirations. A deep rooted relationship exists with their often banal and temporally fragmented rural existence, contrasting sharply with the exuberant cosmopolitan lifestyles that emanate from popular-culture.
Extracted from a larger on-going series, the images displayed pay tribute to the ways in which these young women ‘colour in’ their lives regardless of prescribed social and cultural limitations. It is a visual homage to their blissful intransigence in the face of economic austerity and cultural isolation; an ode to keeping up appearances.
